We Are Simply Christians

We are simply Christians without being members of any denomination.

There Is An Alternative

On the night before He died, Jesus offered a prayer to His Heavenly Father for everyone who would come to believe in Him through the words of the apostles.  For these He prayed, “…that they may be one…that they may be perfected in unity…” John 17:20-23.  Jesus prayed for and desired unity among all those who would believe in Him.

Yet, despite this plea from Jesus, made in the very shadow of the cross, we live in a religious world that is greatly divided.  Estimates indicate there are over 400 major denominations in this country, with somewhere between 1200 and 2000 splinter groups of these.  And that number keeps increasing as time goes on.  One can observe this just by driving down main street in any city or town in this country.  Notice the never ending variety of meeting houses of different religious groups, groups with their own denominational name and their own peculiar teachings and practices.  This prayer of Jesus simply goes unnoticed by much of our religious world today.

Is there an alternative to the “religious confusion” that exist today?  Can’t folks simply be Christians, following Jesus’ direction to live by the inspired writings of the New Testament without forming denominations and creating man-made religious laws?  If these questions have troubled you, if you have always wanted to be JUST A CHRISTIAN, without being a part of a denomination and without being forced to keep man made religious laws, then you will be glad to know that there are people in this community who share your conviction.

The Christians who meet at 102 N Connelly St, Delphi, IN are committed to being JUST CHRISTIANS.  We believe that the division that exists in our religious world today is no more acceptable now than when Paul rebuked the Corinthian church for the division among them (1 Corinthians 1:10-13).  We take seriously Jesus’ prayer in John 17 and work diligently to see His desire fulfilled.

To that end, we encourage a return to the simple teachings of the New Testament.  Unity among all believers in Christ will never be achieved through the efforts of men to invent one set of rules that everyone will accept. Unity can only come through a return to and a respect for the authority of Christ and the teaching of the inspired writers of the New Testament.  After all, the scriptures provide man with all he needs to know to get right with God, live right before God, and go to be with God when he dies (2 Timothy 3:16-17).  Why does man need to add anything to that?

While it may seem to be only a dream, unity is possible when we agree to simply listen to God through His inspired word and humbly submit ourselves to His will (1 Corinthians 14:33).  If you share these concerns and are interested in finding an alternative to the denominational confusion of our religious world, then come and visit with us.
